O acoplador inclui uma zona de acoplamento para receber a linha de embarcação marítima e a linha do rebocador. Um guia é configurado para receber um conector e guiá-lo ao redor da zona de acoplamento para envolver o conector ao redor das linhas. Um membro de fixação é configurado para fixar o conector às linhas de modo que as linhas sejam acopladas. O membro de fixação está a montante da guia e é configurado para dobrar o conector antes que o conector seja recebido pela guia.
