Um volume de construção virtual compreendendo uma representação de pelo menos uma porção do objeto pode ser segmentado em uma pluralidade de segmentos imbricados compreendendo um segmento de núcleo e um segmento periférico. Segmentar o volume de construção virtual pode compreender determinar a dimensão do segmento periférico com base em pelo menos uma de uma geometria do objeto e uma propriedade pretendida do objeto.
