A presente invenção refere-se a composições que incluem células de grupos definidos de espécies microbianas (por exemplo, 3, 16, 18, 19, 21 ou 22 espécies microbianas). Também são descritos métodos de uso de composições microbianas que incluem contatar o solo, plantas, partes de planta ou sementes com a composição. As composições microbianas também são usadas nos métodos de degradação de materiais biológicos, tais como materiais biológicos que contenham quitina.
