Uma plataforma autoelevatória para operações fora da costa compreende um casco. Em adição, a plataforma compreende uma perna de suporte acoplada de maneira móvel ao casco. A perna de suporte tem um eixo central, uma extremidade superior e uma extremidade inferior oposta à extremidade superior. Além disto, a perna de suporte é adaptada para ser levantada e abaixada axialmente em relação ao casco. A plataforma também compreende um tanque de lastro acoplado de maneira móvel à perna de suporte. O tanque de lastro é adaptado para ser levantado e abaixado axialmente em relação à perna de suporte e ao casco.
