Esta invenção objetiva a construção de um plasmídeo recombinante, portador de um cassete gênico que permite a expressão e ancoragem de uma proteína quelante de íons de mercúrio, especificamente a proteína MerR, na superfície celular de uma levedura hospedeira. Ainda, a invenção refere-se à linhagem da levedura recombinante contendo o referido cassete gênico e apresentando potencial aumentado para adsorção e remoção de Hg2+ de ambientes poluídos por esse metal, bem como seu uso em processos de biorremediação ambiental de mercúrio.
