In the background is a white river and waterfall flowing down and through more distant mountains with the sky above them. The closer mountains are green and the distant mountains are blue with purple tops and outline. The picture surrounded by a green oval which is enclosed in a stylized brown frame with black shadow. Inside the oval but outside the picture is a strip of brown and a small strip of gold on the left side. The word "Franklin" in white with gold shadow is centered under the picture in the frame. The numbers and words "1855 North Carolina" are centered under the word "Franklin", also within the frame. "1855" is white, and "North Carolina" is gold.
