Compostos antibacterianos tendo a fórmula e os sais farmaceuticamente aceitáveis, ésteres e amidas dos mesmos, cujos exemplos preferidos slecionado incluem os compostos em que: A é = CR^ 6^=; R^ 1^ é cicloalquila de três a oito átomos de carbono ou fenila substituída; R^ 2^ é selecionado dentre o grupo consistindo de R^ 3^ é halogênio, R^ 4^ é hidrogênio, alquila inferior, um cátion farmaceuticamente aceitável, ou um grupo de éster de prodroga; R^ 5^ hidrogênio, alquila inferior, halo (alquila inferior) ou - NR^ 13^R^ 14^; e R^ 6^ é halogênio, alquila inferior, halo (alquila inferior),alquila substituída por hidroxi, alcoxi inferior (alquila inferior), alcoxi inferior, ou amino (alquila inferior), assim como composições farmacêuticas contendo estes compostos e o uso dos mesmos no tratamento de infecções bacterianas.
