É descrito um processo melhorado para a preparação de cis-1,3-dióis onde uma beta hidróxi cetona é tratada com um trialquilborano ou dialquilalcoxiborano ou com uma mistura de um trialquiborano e um dialquilalcoxiborano seguido pela recuperação e reutilização das espécies de alquilborano para converter a beta hidróxi cetona adicional para o cis-1,3-diol.
