É fornecido um processo para produzir poli-succinimida. A polimerização térmica de ácido maleâmico em uma temperatura de cerca de 160 graus C a cerca de 330 graus C produz poli-succinimida. A reação é opcionalmente conduzida na presença de um ou mais auxiliares de processamento, solventes ou diluentes.
