Abstract
É formado um arco entre um eletrodo móvel (E) (preferivelmente grafita), e um eletrodo fixo (7) num forno quando fundindo óxidos de metal usando um plasma. É introduzido gás de blindagem, p.e. N, para dentro do espaço repleto de matéria (P) em volta do eletrodo móvel (E) para impedir que vapor de metal se deposite sobre o revestimento interno (3; 9) do forno (1). O eletrodo móvel (E) pode ser ligado a um mastro (30) sobre a cobertura do forno (4) para alinhar aquele eletrodo (E) na sua trajetória através de um orifício (10) na cobertura (4) para dentro da câmara do forno (c).
