A invenção se relaciona à nanopartículas revestidas com um material inorgânico em nano escala aqui referido como nanopartícula de núcleo e casca, no qual o material do núcleo tem uma largura de banda mais ampla do que o material da casca. As nanopartículas de núcleo e casca descritas são muito adequadas para a aplicação em terapia fotodinâmica devido a sua habilidade de transferência de energia aprimorada.
