A presente invenção provê o uso de preparação de M.vaccae para a fabricação de um medicamento para uso no tratamento de uma infecção viral crônica, excluindo uma infecção por HIV. As infecções virais crônicas incluem infecção por HPV, como infecção por HPV associada com displasia cervical, infecção por virus do herpes, pan-encefalite esclerosante subaguda, e infecção por vírus de hepatite.
