A invenção diz respeito a um método para produzir um broto de uma planta compreendendo células progenitoras da linha germinativa de uma planta recalcitrante. As células progenitoras da linha germinativa podem ser modificadas de modo a compreenderem uma mutação em uma sequência de interesse. A invenção se refere ainda a plantas obteníveis pelo método da invenção, em que a planta compreende preferencialmente pelo menos a camada meristemática L2 da planta recalcitrante.
