Processo para hidrolisar celulose em celobiose, compreendendo as seguintes etapas: fornecer um recipiente de reação; fornecer um inóculo de Cellulomonas uda (ATCC 491); expor o referido Cellulomonas uda (ATCC 491) à uma fonte de celulose tendo um número kappa menor do que 10 em um meio aquoso com pH de cerca de 8 a uma temperatura que varia de 30ºC a 35ºC durante um período que varia de 14 a 42 dias; expor a celobiose à uma bactéria ou fungo ou levedura, ou a uma combinação dos mesmos que converta celobiose em glicose ou em etanol.
