Abstract
É divulgado um método para converter um antibiótico de beta-lactama em um antibiótico de beta-lactama mascarado para permitir que este cruze a cutícula cerosa da planta e depois subsequentemente desmascarar o beta-lactama e convertê-lo em um antibiótico de beta-lactama ativo no floema da planta. O método permite o uso de antibióticos de beta-lactama a serem usados para tratar uma variedade de infecções bacterianas em plantas que não foi previamente possível porque os antibióticos de beta-lactama nativos não podem cruzar a cutícula cerosa das plantas. Em uma modalidade, a divulgação encontra uso especial no tratamento da infecção bacteriana de plantas cítricas com a doença de Huanglongbing.
