Uma montagem para formar um furo de poço lateral inclui uma fresa tendo um furo e uma pluralidade de lâminas; um whipstock tendo uma superfície inclinada para guiar o movimento da fresa, a fresa conectada de forma destacável ao whipstock; e uma tubulação disposta no furo da fresa e do whipstock. Em um exemplo, pelo menos uma da pluralidade de lâminas está disposta em uma fenda formada no whipstock.
