Trata-se de uma bateria de fluxo que tem uma pilha eletroquímica, um eletrólito positivo, um eletrólito negativo, um tanque de eletrólito positivo e um tanque de eletrólito negativo. O eletrólito positivo e o eletrólito negativo são armazenados, respectivamente, em tanques positivo e negativo. Uma bomba de eletrólito positivo, uma bomba de eletrólito negativo, uma bomba de mistura é inserida no tubo de desvio ou um circuito específico. O tanque positivo e o negativo, são mutuamente conectados por meio de um tubo de conexão, sendo que o dito tubo de conexão é inserido imediatamente acima dos níveis de eletrólito.
