A presente revelação se refere a uma classe de polipeptídeos desenvolvidos por engenharia que possuem uma afinidade de ligação ao ligante de morte programada 1 (PD-L1), e provê um polipeptídeo de ligação a PD-L1 que compreende uma sequência ERNX4AAX7EIL X11LPNLX16X17X18QX20 WAFIWX26LX28D. A presente revelação também se refere ao uso de um polipeptídeo de ligação a PD-L1 desse tipo como um agente terapêutico, prognóstico e/ou diagnóstico.
