Vários produtos de éster de alquil cetal ou éster de hidroxialquil cetal esterificados são úteis como componentes de composições de polímero orgânico. Os ésteres de cetal são produzidos em certas transesterificações entre ésteres de alquil cetal e/ou ésteres de hidroxialquil cetal e polióis, aminoálcoois, poliaminas e/ou ácidos policarboxílicos. Os produtos são plastificantes excelentes para uma variedade de polímeros orgânicos, plastissóis de cloreto de poli(vinila) notáveis.
