Artigos são tratados com uma quantidade reduzida de um composto de sulfonamida aromático halo ativo de Fórmula (I), onde R1, R2, R3, R4, e R5 são selecionados independentemente de hidrogênio, COOR', CON(R")2, alcóxi, CN, NO2, SO3R", halogênio, fenila substituída ou não substituída, sulfonamida, halosulfonamida, e alquila C1-C12 substituída ou não substituída; R' é hidrogênio, um metal alcalino, um metal alcalino terroso, C1-C12 alquila substituída, ou C1-C12 alquila não substituída; e R" é hidrogênio ou C1-C12 alquila substituída ou não substituída, onde os dois grupos R" em CON(R")2 podem ser selecionados independentemente; X é halogênio; M é um metal alcalino ou metal alcalino terroso; e n é o número de moléculas de água por molécula do composto de sulfonamida. O composto efetivamente suprime malcheiros pré-uso, no uso, e pós-uso para longos períodos de tempo.
