São divulgados aqui processos para a obtenção de um óleo microbiano compreendendo um ou mais ácidos graxos poli-insaturados (PUFAs) a partir de uma ou mais células microbianas por lise das células para formar uma composição de células lisadas, tratamento da composição de células lisadas para formar uma emulsão contendo óleo e, em seguida, recuperação do óleo a partir da emulsão contendo óleo. à ainda divulgado aqui é um óleo microbiano compreendendo um ou mais PUFAs que é recuperado a partir de células microbianas por pelo menos um processo aqui descrito.
