ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE[0234] The present invention provides methods for determining the selectivity of an anesthetic for an anesthetic-sensitive receptor by determining the molar water solubility of the anesthetic. The invention further provides methods for modulating the selectivity of an anesthetic for an anesthetic-sensitive receptor by altering or modifying the anesthetic to have higher or lower water solubility. The invention further provides methods of inducing anesthesia in a subject by administering via the respiratory pathways (e.g., via inhalational or pulmonary delivery) an effective amount of an anesthetic compound identified according to the present methods.TRADUÇÃO DO RESUMORESUMOPatente de Invenção: "MÉTODOS DE INDUÇÃO DE ANESTESIA". A presente invenção proporciona métodos para determinar a seletividade de um anestésico por um receptor sensível ao anestésico através de determinação da solubilidade em água molar do anestésico. A invenção proporciona ainda métodos para modulação da seletividade de um anestésico por um receptor sensível ao anestésico ao alterar ou modificar o anestésico para ter maior ou menor solubilidade em água. A invenção proporciona ainda métodos para induzir à anestesia em um indivíduo por meio de administração, através das vias respiratórias (por exemplo, através de distribuição por inalação ou pulmonar) de uma quantidade eficaz de um composto anestésico identificado de acordo com os presentes métodos.
