Abstract

Abstract There is provided a method and apparatus for a tongue implant to induce deformation of the tongue for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. In first inactive state it can deform like the tongue needing minimal deformation forces and in second state change deforming the tongue and changing its rigidity to reliably and safely open up the pharyngeal airway blocked by the tongue by deforming and protruding the tongue and thus prevent or recover apneic events. Furthermore it minimizes relative movement between implanted member and tongue surface in contact with the member to avoid abrasion of the member. In another embodiment, there is provided a method and apparatus for placement of a passive implant to permanently compress the tongue by deforming it, stiffening it and providing a torque to maintain pharyngeal stability for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.__________________TRADUÇÃO DO RESUMORESUMOPatente de Invenção: "IMPLANTE DE DEFORMAÇÃO DE LÍNGUA".A presente invenção refere-se a um método e aparelho para um implante de língua para produzir uma deformação da língua para o tratamento de apneia de sono obstrutiva. No primeiro estado inativo este pode deformar como a língua necessitando forças de deformação mínimas e em uma segunda mudança de estado deformando a língua e mudando a sua rigidez para confiavelmente e seguramente abrir as vias aéreas faríngeas bloqueadas pela língua deformando e projetando a língua e assim impedir ou recuperar de eventos apneicos. Mais ainda, este minimiza o movimento relativo entre o membro implantado e a superfície da língua em contato com o membro para evitar a abrasão do membro. Em outra modalidade, está provido um método e aparelho para colocação de um implante passivo para perma-nentemente comprimir a língua deformando-a, enrijecendo-a e pro-vendo um torque para manter a estabilidade faríngea para o tratamento de apneia do sono obstrutiva.
