Abstract

AbstractSpecific binding members, particularly human antibodies, particularly recombinant antibodies, and fragments thereof, which are capable of binding to and recognizing neurons in the CNS and eliciting responses in CNS neurons are provided. The antibodies are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions associated with nerve damage, injury or degeneration and neurodegenerative disease, and in particular in the treatment or alleviation of stroke or cerebral ischemia. The antibodies, variable regions or CDR domain sequences. thereof, and fragments thereof of the invention may also be used in therapy in combination with chemotherapeutics, immune modulators, or neuroactive agents and/or with other antibodies or fragments thereof. The antibodies or active fragments thereof may be used in therapy for stroke or cerebral ischemia alone or in combination with thrombolytics such as TPA. A presente invenção refere-se a membros de ligação específica, particularmente anticorpos humanos, particularmente anticorpos recombinantes, e fragmentos dos mesmos, que são capazes de se ligar a e reconhecer os neurônios no CNS e provocar respostas em neurônios do CNS. Os anticorpos são úteis no diagnóstico e tratamento de condições associadas com danos nos nervos, lesão ou degeneração e doença neurodegenerativa, e em particular no tratamento ou alívio de acidente vascular cerebral ou isquemia cerebral. Os anticorpos, regiões variáveis ou sequências de domínios CDR dos mesmos, e fragmentos dos mesmos da invenção podem também ser usados em terapia em combinação com agentes quimioterapêuticos, moduladores imunes ou agentes neuroactivos e/ou com outros anticorpos ou fragmentos dos mesmos. Os anticorpos ou fragmentos ativos dos mesmos podem ser utilizados em terapia de acidente vascular cerebral ou isquemia cerebral sozinho ou em combinação com trombolíticos como o TPA.
