A presente invenção refere-se a um anel (1) de pistão e a um processo de deposição de um revestimento capaz de garantir uma espessura variável da camada de revestimento (5) da superfície externa (2) do anel (1) de pistão, de tal modo que uma região da vizinhança das pontas (31, 32) de uma abertura (3) do anel (1) compreenda uma camada de revestimento (5) mais espessa do que a camada de revestimento da região oposta à vizinhança das pontas (31, 32) do anel (1), e ainda, com uma diminuição da espessura da camada de revestimento (5) das pontas (31, 32) da abertura (3) do anel (1), oferecendo assim um anel (1) de pistão com durabilidade elevada devido à excelente resistência e à elevada espessura na região de maior desgaste do anel.22672908v1 1/122672908v1
